Jaleo Turns 25

April 2018

On April 5, 1993, Jaleo, a new Spanish restaurant in the heart of Penn Quarter in Washington DC, opened with young chef José Andrés in the kitchen. This April, 25 years later, Chef José and his team are excited to still be at the heart of the neighborhood, as well as serving tapas at Jaleo locations throughout the region and the country!

Jaleo’s 25th Anniversary celebration will include a series of special events and menus, with additional events to be announced throughout the year. Here's a bit of what to expect:

  • A 25th Anniversary Tasting Menu, launching on Monday, April 9, which will offer guests the opportunity to sample Jaleo’s signature menu items, including Ostras Picadillo, Gambas al ajillo, and Pan Manchego ($55).
  • The 25 Throwback specials, also launching on Monday, April 9, which will include some of the first menu items offered at the restaurant. Highlights include Patatas al Cabrales, Aceitunas marinades con queso Manchego, and Calamares en su tinta.
  • Cooking Classes at Jaleo in Bethesda MD, taking place on Tuesday, April 10 and Wednesday, April 11, will honor the 25th anniversary by teaching guests how to make some of Jaleo’s most iconic tapas.
  • The official 25th anniversary party will take place on Tuesday, May 29. The celebration includes an Open House at Jaleo in DC from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. as well as a 5pm cava toast at all Penn Quarter ThinkFoodGroup restaurants and DC-area Jaleo locations.
