Dining With a Star Chef at Oyamel

September 2017

Award-winning Mexican-American chef Pati Jinich hosted an intimate dinner at Oyamel alongside Head Chef Omar Rodriguez to celebrate the new season of her PBS show, Pati’s Mexican Table.  Guests enjoyed the flavors of the city of Oaxaca, the Coast, and the Isthmus of Tehuantepec and learned about the state’s traditions and cooking techniques.

The celebrated chef also gave guests a preview of her upcoming season. “I am excited about showing a side of Oaxaca that most people have not even heard about, about bringing new possibilities of flavors and ingredient combinations to people’s homes,” she said.

Pati is extremely accomplished as a chef and has even cooked at the White House for President Barack Obama at his Cinco de Mayo dinner in 2014.  She is a TV personality, cookbook author, and a chef at the Mexican Cultural Institution in Washington, D.C.  Her show is a double Emmy and double James Beard-nominated television series.

Chefs Omar and Pati collaborated to create a unique menu inspired by the flavors of Oaxaca, the region Pati explores this season. “There is so much passion and so much talent in the team, that the menu kept on expanding as we planned for the event,” Pati said.

Some of the items on the menu included Pollo Almendrado, a chicken leg confit in a traditional Oaxacan almond sauce, served with roasted spicy fingerling potatoes; and Champurrado Postre, an ice cream dessert topped with a chocolate brownie, Oaxacan chocolate espuma, caramelized popcorn, mezcal raisins, and candied peanuts.

“The night just flew away so deliciously fast!” Pati said after the meal – and her guests agreed.
