Spring – And Cherry Blossoms – Are in the Air

Spring is here, and so is one of D.C.’s most anticipated celebrations of the season – the National Cherry Blossom Festival. Our D.C.-area restaurants, including Fish at the MGM National Harbor, will offer special drinks, entrees, and desserts as part of the Cherry Picks Restaurant Program, a partnership between the National Cherry Blossom Festival and the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington (RAMW) to showcase the area’s vibrant and diverse restaurant scene to the over 1.5 million festival attendees.

Specials at our restaurants started on March 25 and last through the end of the Festival. The dishes and cocktails pay homage to the cherry blossoms and their Japanese heritage. Here’s a sneak peek at some of the highlights (visit our restaurants to see the full specials menus):

  • Oyamel will share a new ceviche de huachinango con granada – a hibiscus-cured Gulf Coast red snapper in a pomegranate leche de tigre with golden beets, red onion, and cilantro as well as a salt air margarita with hibiscus.
  • China Chilcano will offer a Japanese whiskey cocktail with cherry and lemon (the Kichiro Blossom) and a sour cherry pisco cocktail with plum sake and Chinese five spice (the Sakura Maru).
  • America Eats Tavern will add cherry ice cream and sauce to their decadent Martha Washington Cake and have Cherry Blossom soda for the kids (and adults!).
  • Zaytinya will have a Wild Cherry dessert of Valrhona chocolate pudding, Sercarz Wild Cherry Spice, red fruit compote, chocolate crumble, and fior di latte ice cream.
  • Jaleo will offer bruselas fritas con almendras y cerezas (fried brussels sprouts with marcona almonds, dried cherries, roasted apple puree, and honey sherry dressing) and cordero a la parrilla con pure de papas y salsa cerezas (grilled lamb t-bones with olive oil mashed potatoes and cherry sauce).
  • Fish by José Andrés will offer a roasted bone marrow dish with cherry mostarda and rustic grilled bread and a black forest cake with cherry coulis, champagne meringue, and vanilla ice cream.
