Barmini's Busy Summer
July 2019
It seems like it’s impossible to look at headlines this summer without coming across barmini by José Andrés. The barmini team won the D.C.-area’s prestigious RAMMY award for “Cocktail Program of the Year” from the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington. In a June 30 ceremony, the team was on hand to receive the award as well as to mix their elegant liquid nitrogen caipirinha for guests.
Bar Manager Ismael Barreto said, “Winning this award meant a lot to everybody who has worked so many hours to make sure our cocktails are consistent and make sure we’re innovating and creating all the time.”
On July 18, the barmini team also joined Spanish brandy maker Torres for a unique, experiential cocktail event at the annual Tales of the Cocktail (TOTC) Foundation conference in New Orleans. The conference is one of the cocktail industry’s premier festivals, inviting stars from around the world for an exchange of new ideas, products, and techniques.
Continuing with its mini series/major bars program, barmini hosted one of the World’s 50 Best Bars, Salmon Guru in Madrid, for its first-ever collaboration in the U.S. The two teams served up a few of the eye-catching concoctions that won Salmon Guru Best Cocktail Menu in Spain and Best Bar in Spain.
And for the first time, barmini will host Virtue Day on July 30, celebrating the flavors and techniques of non-alcoholic drinks in order to showcase the versatility of the beverage world beyond alcohol. Only non-alcoholic beverages will be served, featuring five concoctions made with Seedlip, the world’s first distilled non-alcoholic spirit. “It’s a bit unusual for a bar but we are working with quite a few unique ingredients and flavor profiles that are really exciting,” said Barreto. “When you go to a bar and aren’t drinking alcohol you can feel excluded from the experience. The goal for this event is to make sure everyone feels included and has a good time.”
Make your reservations for this unique event here.
And don’t forget: the next barmini 101 cocktail class will be on August 14 featuring amaros so you can learn how to integrate the bitter herbal liqueur into cocktails. Book your spot today.
