What's Coming Up This Fall?
October 2017
Day of the Dead at Oyamel
Día de los Muertos is a time where people remember and honor their loved ones through special food and drink, including pan de muertos and beautifully decorated skulls made from sugar. Come celebrate Dia de los Muertos at Oyamel with a night filled with special cocktails, tequila and mezcal tastings, live music, an animal roast, and face painting. The festival this year is dedicated to Cesar Chavez, the civil rights activist and labor union leader. Make a reservation between October 23-November 5 to celebrate this tradition with Oyamel!
International Sherry Week
Join us for International Sherry Week November 6-11 at Jaleo to honor southern Spain’s iconic drink! The annual global fiesta promotes this unique fortified wine, and Jaleo will be joining thousands of restaurants around the world to serve a variety of sherries as well as food specials from Andalucía, the home of sherry as well as jamón, gazpacho, and the most famous Spanish dance, flamenco. Check out Jaleo's website for more information, and read more about sherry here!
DC Cocktail Week
From November 13-19, Washington, DC will be celebrating Cocktail Week - and of course José's restaurants will be involved! Come to Jaleo, Oyamel, Zaytinya, and China Chilcano for fun drink specials and food pairings all week. Read more about DC Cocktail week here, and make a reservation or just come join for a drink at the bar!
Capital Food Fight
DC Central Kitchen will be hosting its signature fundraising event, the Capital Food Fight, on November 16, 2017. Over 80 of DC’s top restaurants will have tastings while four local top chefs compete onstage hosted and judged by big names like Ryan Zimmerman, a Washington Nationals baseball player, and Tregaye Fraser, current winner of “Food Network Star” and co-host of “The Kitchen Sink” on the Food Network. All of the proceeds will help combat hunger and create opportunity in Washington, DC. Check out how you can contribute here!
José Lectures at Harvard
José will be returning to Harvard University this semester as a guest lecturer in science and cooking. The series includes Harvard professors, food experts, and renowned chefs showcasing the science behind culinary techniques. José will be closing out the series on November 27th, where he will be discussing avante-garde cooking and the future of cuisine. Watch José speaking at Harvard back in 2011, and check out the full 2017 schedule here.
