Somni Earns Two Michelin Stars

On June 3 in a ceremony in Huntington Beach, California, the Michelin Guide returned to Los Angeles and awarded Somni two stars in its first-ever California-wide guide. Somni, which has only been open since March 2018, is an intimate, multisensory tasting concept within the Bazaar by José Andrés helmed by Head Chef Aitor Zabala. Somni was one of only seven restaurants in L.A. to earn two stars, which indicate that a restaurant is “worth a detour,” according to Michelin’s century-old system that rates restaurants based on recommendations for motorists. Along with minibar by José Andrés in Washington, D.C., which first earned its stars in 2017, Somni is José’s second restaurant to receive this great honor.

José was at the ceremony, and tweeted

 

Somni, which means ‘dream’ in Catalan, was recently ranked #5 on the Opinionated About Dining February release of the Top 100+ North American Restaurants. Somni also was named "Best New Restaurant" by OAD, and Aitor was named Chef of the Year by Eater Los Angeles.

About the award, Aitor wrote on Instagram: “Today I feel so honored and humbled that my team and I received two Michelin stars. I want to thank our team for all the hard work in the last 15 months. They have show[n] me passion, work ethic, and persistence. You deserve this. Many thanks to Chef José Andrés, the man who encouraged me to come to the United States and make my dream come true.”
