José Shares Thanksgiving Thoughts and Recipes

November 2017

by José Andrés

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. I usually spend all day with my wife and daughters at home outside of Washington, DC. It’s beautiful outside, with the leaves in different shades of reds, oranges and yellows. My favorite part of the holiday is that I get to cook for the people that I love. Cooking has always been important to me because it is an opportunity to share with the people around me. There’s no better time than Thanksgiving to give back to the people who support us so much in life, a holiday centered on sharing food with the people we love.

This year, I am celebrating in Puerto Rico with the many volunteers and chefs who have worked alongside me and the World Central Kitchen team. We have so much to be grateful for - the selfless dedication put in to feed the island in its time of need; the many, many donations by people around the world; the support shown by friends near and far. And that's why this year I will be with the team at Vivo Beach Club in San Juan, cooking some great Thanksgiving dishes for the amazing volunteers who have given so much to help their neighbors, family, and friends, and who have helped us to serve over 2.9 million meals to the people of Puerto Rico.

Here are a couple of my favorite vegetable side dishes that I usually serve at home with my family and friends - we all love the turkey of course, but I really love the vegetables!
